The City of Moncton and the Province of New Brunswick work hard to attract newcomers and international students to our region. But attraction is only part of the story. Retention matters just as much.
For newcomers to stay and build their lives here, they need more than employment. They need connection. They need opportunities to feel welcomed, included, and part of the community.
United Way of Greater Moncton and Southeastern New Brunswick administers and supports Ayoba Moncton, an initiative funded by the City of Moncton focused on creating inclusive spaces and meaningful opportunities for newcomers to connect.
Through year-round events, social gatherings, and community activities, Ayoba helps reduce isolation and foster belonging.
Many newcomers arrive without established networks. They may feel lonely, disconnected, or unsure how to build friendships. Ayoba creates safe, welcoming environments where people can meet others, experience local culture, and develop lasting roots for themselves and their families.
By organizing events and supporting opportunities that bring people together, United Way helps strengthen social networks, encourage retention, and build a more connected and resilient Greater Moncton community.
